After the very animated summer 2006, this year the Milan‘s municipality offers to the citizens staying at home and to all the tourists visiting the city, a more “moderate” summer, putting in the calendar a series of concerts and cultural events with the aim of delighting, but without shocking, the hot nights of this big Italian chief town. 15 exhibitions, more than 76 concerts, 6 musical reviews, 24 theatrical performances for 95 projections and 4 thematic film reviews are the numbers of this Milanese summer, which takes the name of “La Bella Estate”.
From a cultural point of view, the summer program is rich and varied. Several film reviews have already been projected, which wanted to be tributes to the big Italian cinema and literature’s personalities, such as the tribute to Alberto Moravia on the occasion of his birth’s centenary.
City sights like Vilaggio Barona, the Grassi Theatre, the Studio Theatre, Leonardo Theatre and Libero Theatre, represent this year the main nightlife centres, by housing theatre reviews and recitals. Among the others, the “Machbeth” play comes up directed by Corrado D’Elia, a great success performed again in this days at the Libero Theatre, from 3rd to 21st of July.
But, music is once more the protagonist of the Milanese summer, from pop to jazz sounds, from classical music to blues, many international artists are performing on the stages located all around the city and entertain the audience with their coloured notes.
The Orchestra Sinfonica Milanese inaugurated the season on 21st of June with four suggestive concerts followed by Milano Jazzin’ Festival (a jazz festival started the 7th of July with a Stefano Di Battista’s performance), which is going to present many protagonists from international jazz universe and from the world of music in general. Among the others we underline the following performances: Raul Mindon (July 12th), Campbell Brothers (July 13th), Donavon Frankenreiter (July 17th), James Taylor Quartet (July 18th), Zuco 103 (July 22nd) and Courtney Pine (July 23rd), artists who have choosen the Milano Jazzin’ Festival, indeed, as unique date in Italy! Particularly interesting the Patti Smith‘s concert fixed for the 16th of July and the tribute to Miles Davis by the Parco della Musica Jazz Orchestra in the Villa Scheibler’s park.
The pop universe will offer a variety of singer songwriters – among he others Simone Cristicchi, Carmen Consoli, Gino Paoli, Pet Shop Boys, Tiromancino, Fiorella Mannoia, Neffa, Paulina Rubio, Stadio, Bandabardò, Take That – who are going to appear in the summer areas starting from the 13th of this month (with the concert of Antonella Ruggero) till October 26th; the Canadian Michael Bublè’s musicality will close the summer season.
Moreover, on the occasion of “La Bella Estate”, the city of Milan sets aside other surprises! Apart from the myriad of big exhibitions which are usually organized in the city, from the 6th of July to the 16th of September it will be given the opportunity to enter in touch with Gianfranco Ferroni’s artistic research: both in Milan and Bergamo a big itinerant exhibition has been set, comparing about 200 of his paintings with the works of other authors like Boccioni, Giacometti, Freud, Morandi and others.
The Milan mayor’s purpose is to combinate quality of entertainment and quality of services, by offering a calendar of events able to animate the city also in August, a month in which usually Milan‘s squares and streets turn into urban deserts.
Let you decide if he got at his intent!
