In the works from 7th to 12th of July there will be the fifth edition of TRAFFIC – TORINO FREE FESTIVAL with six days of free concerts. As well as last years best Italian and international music will be the first act of the festival, which according to the tradition, will be totally free.
Traffic is a free music festival which yearly happens in Turin since 2004 and it is organized on several nights, with concerts displaced in all the parks of the city of Turin. The epicentre of the festival, where the most important concerts will take place, is the park of Pellerina.
But Traffic is not the only one of the most important Italian musical events, but it is also characterized by the wealth of the program, including transversal activities in all the parts of the city. In fact the more interesting peculiarity that characterized the Torino Free Festival since the beginning, is the basic theme: the one of 2008 will be Punk, and in honour of this musical evocation we could see on the stage the Sex Pistols, the legendary Punk band that topped the charts in the 70′s. On the concert of the 11th of July, they will be followed by The Wire, another historical name of that music season that hit the big time together with other “cult” bands like the Clash and the Ramones.
The thread of the festival dedicated to contemporary art is inspired by the events taking place on the main stage and this year, following the basic theme, it is dedicated to punk. There will be a retrospective tracking shot on punk through a selection of films and documentaries whose curator is Marco Philopat, a design exhibition (the first Italian anthological exhibition of Jamie Reid, namely Sex Pistols’ designer), and an awful lot of others events.
In the other days it will be possible to see on the stage artists like Tricky, Afterhours and the rock poetry Patty Smith, which is also dedicated to a photographic exhibition in the Marena Rooms Gallery.
As well as last year the Traffic events will take place in several symbolic sites of Turin and these sites will be interconnected by free buses.
For the 2006 edition it have been calculated more than 190.000 persons during all the six days of the festival, a record broke in the 2007 with 200.000 total spectators.
