In honour of the 150° anniversary of Giacomo Puccini‘s birth, a motion-picture exhibition called “PUCCINI AL CINEMA” was organized, created and developped by the Prof. Pier Marco De Santi, Italian movie-picture history lecturer at the University of Pisa and strongly desired by the Puccinian Festival Foundation.
“Puccini al cinema” is taking place from the 28th of June until the 30th of September at the Auditorium of the New Open-Air Theatre of Torre del Lago Puccini (recently built, dedicated to Lucca’s composer) and it is the first collection of motion-picture operas related to Puccini: more than forty films, some of them from the dumb cinema, included the untold film of Puccini’s funeral.
The review is divided into two parts: an exhibition that foresees many films related to the figure and the opera of the composer and a retrospective exhibition with the special screening of more than thirty films and untold documentaries, selected from the various and more important periods of the movie-picture history. In addition, a lot of meetings with very important personalities of the movie-picture world will take place.
The importance of this event is underlined by the presence of very important guests and by the big audience at the opening day of the exhibition, as a matter of fact the “Puccini al cinema” is the most important event of the Torre del Lago summer.
The exhibition is totally free and will be opened everyday from 5 pm until 10 pm. The screenings will start at 9 pm.
