The Villaggio del Cinema and the stately Auditorium Parco della Musica, designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, will host this magical event, in the amazing city of Rome which from time immemorial makes artists dream.

The fourth edition of the Rome International Film Festival is put on by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma and promoted by the Fondazione Musica per Roma, the Municipality of Rome, the Rome Chamber of Commerce, the Province of Rome and the Lazio Region.

But now, let’s take a look at the numbers of this fourth edition 2009: there will be in fact 139 feature films and documentaries, 14 films in the Official Selection competition, 8 films out of competition in the Official Selection, 8 screenings and special events, 14 films of the retrospective dedicated to Meryl Streep, 3 exhibitions, 9 official awards, 7 collateral awards, 7 movie theatres of the Villaggio del Cinema, about 1,660,000 people who visited the areas of the Festival in the previous editions, 317,000 tickets sold in the three former editions…and many others.

The Sections of the Festival are four:

- Official Selection, which includes the categories of the films in and out of competition, in this edition focuses on History and stories suggested from literature, important biographies and contemporary news items, without renouncing to the cinema’s stars like Colin Farrell, Richard Gere or Gorge Clooney;

- Extra: this will show us several documentaries, feature films and special meetings with Meryl Streep, Richard Gere and also the famous author Paulo Coelho, who for the first time created a film from one of his novels thanks to the cooperation with his readers through the net. In addition, a retrospective dedicated to Meryl Streep and one dedicated to the great Italian director Luigi Zampa, and unpublished works by two masters as Olmi and Scorsese.

- Alice nella Città , where in the images of the selected films we can find the wish to reconnect to a personal, familiar, intimate memory. It is a sort of “public diary” which tells ordinary happenings, the present time and its difficulties, dreams, frustrations, loneliness and the daily delusions and hope.

- Focus, which highlights the contemporary themes and happenings of our history and life, such as the global theme of the environment and the specific issue of climate
change.

Not enough? The programme schedules also an exhibition which wants to pay homage to the great Italian director Sergio Leone, one of the most important personalities in the Italian and world cinema, twenty years after his death. The exhibition, entitled “Sergio Leone, uno sguardo inedito”, is curated by Gian Luca Farinelli, the director of the Bologna Cineteca, with the cooperation of the two Oscar winners Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo. The exhibition will be open to the public until October 23rd from 12 am to 6 pm.
