Christmas Time in Milan: among Markets, new Events and Traditions

In Milan, Christmas is coming with many traditional events and fairs, which as usual will liven up the streets and squares of such a big city like Milan.
The fair called Fiera degli “Oh bej Oh bej”, the most important, traditional event in Milan, will take place on December, 7th 2010.

The event dates back to 1288 and is celebrated in order to pay homage to St. Ambrogio, the patron saint of the city. It seems that the name of the fair comes from the exclamations of the children (“Oh beautiful! Oh beautiful!”) when they saw the gifts sent by Pope Pio IV, Giannetto Castiglioni.

Nowadays, the market is for everybody and visitors will find antiques, hand-crafted products and sweets, for the joy of both children and adults.

Since 1866, such a beautiful event takes place near the Basilica dedicated to St. Ambrogio and still nowadays, every year it gathers thousands visitors who seeking among the many stalls, look for their Christmas’ gifts.

But it’s not all! If you are in Milan and you are handicrafts-addicts, in December you will find also Artgiano in Fiera, a exhibition-market of hand-made products taking place at the new exhibition center in Rho – Pero, from 4th to 12th December 2010.

Artigiano in Fiera is an event unlike any other in the world: a meeting opportunity to discover and embrace the traditions and the work culture of over a hundred Countries, in a festive and lively atmosphere, allowing to come into direct contact with the artisans.

On those who experience this fair (even on us promoters, who have been working on it for fifteen years), the impression that it instills is, first of all, one of beauty, of enthusiasm, and an occasion for sharing. This makes it unique and different from all other trade fairs. In our endeavor to organize it each year, we always set off with the awareness that we are partaking in an extraordinary venue, perceived as such by everyone, visitors and exhibitors alike
