World Archery Championships and Parachampionships 2011 in Turin

From July 3rd to 17th 2011, the World Archery Championships take place in Turin in special locations: the park of Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, the residence built by Filippo Juvarra and declared part of UNESCO world heritage, whereas the finals will be held in the center of Turin, in Piazza Castello.

Here are some numbers of this World Archery Championships: 1500 athletes are expected to be representing 80 different countries.

The world championships will be held in Turin just on the year of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Italian Unity and will be the only performance for the qualifying match at London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. In addition, for the first time, the matches for disabled and not disabled athletes

The president of the committee is Tiziana Nasi: president of the Italian Federation for Winter Paralympic Sports and former president of the Committee for the organization of 9th Winter Paralympic Games held in Turin in 2006.

The 2011 edition of championships will present some new elements, such as the introduction of “mixed team”, “set system” and “50 mt match round for the compound bow.

Finals will be held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July in piazza Castello in Turin.

For each session it will be possible to watch the finals for the assignation of the title of World Champion.

Henoel Grech, Turin’s musician, will compose the official hymn of World Championships 2011, just like in 2009 European Championship.
