Spend your Christmas in Tuscany among hundreds Traditional Markets

This year spend your Christmas in Tuscany. You’ll find many events, concerts, initiatives for adults and children, Christmas markets and special festivals in all the cities and villages of the region.

Multicoloured, decorated, enlightened cities. Thousands lights warming city streets, shops windows and children hearts. Shopping, gifts, cards to Santa, Christmas songs and huge Christmas trees located in the largest squares of the cities, such as in Piazza della Repubblica in Florence.

As usual, Florence will welcome you with many amazing Christmas events and traditional handicraft markets. Don’t miss the fabulous Weihnachtsmarkt, the German Christmas market, taking place yearly in Piazza Santa Croce.

You’ll find many stalls selling handicraft products, Christmas decorations, wood objects, handmade toys, pieces of pottery and much more. In addition, many German specialties such as wurstel, sauerkrauts, strudel, vin brulé (mulled wine), beer, German cheese, Austrian chocolate candies. From 30th November to 18th December. Open all the days, from 10 am to 8 pm.

Still in Florence, on Sunday 18th December you can also visit the Fierucola di Natale, another typical Florence Christmas Market located in Piazza Santo Spirito and open all the day long.

If you’d rather spend your Christmas holidays in the countryside, close to nature, then we suggest you the green and peaceful Mugello area in Tuscany. Over here, too, there’s a lot of Christmas markets and special events in this period.

Don’t miss the striking Christmas Market in Palazzuolo sul Senio (province of Florence) taking place on 4th, 8th, 11th and 18th December 2011 in the historical centre. A traditional Christmas market offering decorations, gift ideas, hobby and art products, typical local products and you will also enjoy the tasting of local products such as polenta, doughnuts, cakes, tortellini stuffed with chestnuts. In addition, shows, gospel choirs, puppetry, etc.

Still in the Mugello area, also the beautiful village of Marradi will offer Christmas markets on each Sunday of December before Christmas day, beginning at 11 am. In Piazza Le Scalelle, you’ll find many stalls offering handicraft products and Christmas decorations.

The amazing city of Lucca in Christmas time becomes even more beautiful and striking. Also this year the city scheduled the event Natale nel Medioevo, a medieval Christmas market taking place in Piazza Cittadella and via del Poggio (historical centre), reconstructing the Christmas atmosphere of Middle Ages showing many medieval handicraft jobs. From 8th to 11th December 2011.

In this period, in the city of Pisa, besides the world-famous Leaning Tower, you can marvel at the striking Christmas Markets taking place under the Logge dei Banchi (loggias) with several stalls offering wine-and-food products but also handmade objects.

Finally, in Rocca (a village in the province of Massa Carrara) there will be the exhibition called “Presepi del mondo” showing more than 130 Christmas crib scenes in a special atmosphere created by thousands drawings made by children along the streets of the village.
