Enjoy Liguria in Christmas Time, among handicraft markets and colored lights

Liguria gets ready for receiving its thousands visitors with the most beautiful Christmas markets in the large enlightened squares and the most striking villages on the coast.

As usual, Manarola, one of the villages of Cinque Terre, will host its famous luminous nativity scene, the greatest in the world.

From 8th December 2011 to 2nd February 2012 you will have the chance to visit this extraordinary nativity scene set up on the hill Tre Croci: 250 full-size personages will offer a fantastic scenario from the sea and the earth: many little luminous figures heading for Jesus’ hut. Shepherds, sheep, camels and also fishers and fishes (obviously the latter couldn’t miss a nativity scene by the sea).

An eco-sustainable nativity scene! Why? Because the peculiarity of the luminous nativity scene of Manarola is also that the 15,000 light bulbs enlightening the nativity are feed by a solar-energy system and the personages have been created with recycled material. A really cutting-edge idea! So, this year, discover the treasures of Cinque Terre also in Christmas Time!

In the city of La Spezia, many initiatives and Christmas markets have been organized, such as the one that will take place in Biassa on Sunday 18th December (from 9 am to 8 pm) with many stalls offering many handmade creations by the craftsmen of the area.

From 10th to 18th December, “Mercatino di Natale” (Christmas Market) will be held in piazza Matteotti in Sarzana, en event organized in collaboration with Slow Food. Here, you’ll find high-quality and biological products, such as the oil and honey coming from the surrounding hills, alpaca jumpers, wonderful toys in wood and many patchwork objects.

On Saturday 17th December in Pieve di Teco (province of Imperia), from 9.00 am there will be the Mercatino dell’Antiquariato (Antique Market) in the historical centre. Several exhibitors coming from Liguria, Piedmont and France will offer many unique pieces for the collectors (and addicts) of ancient objects and furniture.

Last but not least, Genoa as usual will present several Christmas initiatives and this year there’s a great surprise for children: Santa Claus’ Village! Yes, it has been officially recognized by Finnish authorities and will be in Genoa for 23rd edition of Natalidea, the great Christmas trade- exhibition fair scheduled from 7th to 18th December 2011.

Santa Claus’ village at Natalidea will present a striking scenario and will give space to the activities so much loved by children: shows, performances, magic, games and traditions.

Here you will find everything for your Christmas gifts: clothes, sport articles, bijoux, handicrafts, decorations, home products, gastronomy (cakes, sweets, typical products and wines). In addition, many cooking and decoupage workshops for adults and funny papier mâché and fabric workshops for children. Many magic shows and stand-up comedies on the stage.

These are just a few of the many initiatives set up in Liguria for your special Christmas 2011. It’s Christmas time, don’t miss Liguria in this special period!
