Summer has arrived with a bang in Pisa with the exceptional event “Luminara 2013”

Here we go guys, finally! Temperature is getting higher and maybe Summer is just around the corner in Italy!

As a matter of fact, here it is soon en event ready for announce the awakening of Summer: on Sunday 16th June, once again, the striking Luminara di San Ranieri will take place in Pisa and, as a tradition, will enlighten the historical centre with thousands candle lights.

Pisa will be enlightened by about 70,000 candle lights in the area along the Arno river. The lights will be put into little glasses and hung to wood, white-painted structures to highlight the shapes of buildings, palaces, bridges, churches and towers located along the river.

This event is celebrated every year to pay homage to the patron saint of the city, St Ranieri, which is on 17th June.

In addition, you’ll attend spectacular fireworks at midnight and you’’ll also find many stalls and parties around the historical centre.

Luminara is an historical event that is part of “Giugno Pisano” (“Pisa June”), a series of appointments and events taking place in June for beginning Summer 2013 with entertainment, music, culture and much fun.

It will be a month full of historical commemorations (such as the Luminara, the Festival of St Ranieri, the historical regatta), events, concerts, street markets, performances, open-air parties and cultural initiatives to celebrate Pisa’s old traditions.
