Trade, handicraft, buildings and food… During centuries, the antic Maritime Republic of Venice was grounded on the sea and drew all its wealth from it. This profound relationship is nowadays brought to light by events like the 13th Venice International Boat Show.
For every person passionate by boats, for those wanting to purchase or simply to admire and dream, here is an unavoidable meeting occurring every year at the beginning of April and which is the only event of its kind on the whole Adriatic Sea.
Taking some distance with the preconceived idea that boats are reserved to rich people, this Show prefers to focus on the little and medium sailing equipment. Numerous companies specialized in boating and water sports will display around 160 crafts on water or dry land, without forgetting the bigger ships (longer than 10m) which will have their dedicated space.
You’ll find everything in this little seaman’s paradise: sail boats, oar boats, motor boats, accessorizing and also refitting services aimed to those already owning a craft.
Some 25 sporting events are organized, among which new electrical and solar boats trials, a rowing demonstration of the famous Galeone participating every year to the Maritime Republics’ Palio and dogs rescue demonstrations in sea. If you have never been on a boat, you will have to opportunity to take a free ride on a canoe or a keel boat.
In addition to these activities, there will be 15 conventions on different subjects such as the environment, eco-sailing, Venice’s lagoon, communication on sea or Magellan’s world tour. You’ll also find an annex called “Festival of the Sea” dedicated to water sports and who could maybe convince you into starting one of these activities.
Finally, you may also have a break in one of the many gastronomical stands preparing special fish recipes or do some shopping by buying clothes or books around the sea.
