Once again, the open-air Gran Teatro Giacomo Puccini will host great guests and breathtaking operas, for a summer rich in music.

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Bologna’s cineteca (Bologna film collection unit), is moving from Paris - city that hosted it for a long period of time - to the Italian town, and entitled: Federico Fellini. Dall’Italia alla Luna. (Federico Fellini. From Italy to the Moon).

It is an interactive exhibition, a sort of voyage inside Fellini’s dream-like imagery, from the beginning to its full development, realized to make people understand the director and his works through obsessions that inspired him during the building of his very special characters.

Thanks to pictures on exhibit - more than 200 - original drawings - about 50 - 30 audio video stations with 12 video projections and hundreds of original documents taken from magazines, posters, slides and magazine covers of that time, the exhibition traces the scenes’ realization, the analysis of locations and the movies’ backstage through a path organized by tematic areas which are: Cultura popolare (Popular culture), Fellini al lavoro (Fellini at work), La città delle donne (The city of women) and Invenzione biografica (Biographical invention). The section entitled Fellini e la voce (Fellini and the voice) - a special area dedicated to moving images opposed to still images - enriches the exhibition with audio-video materials coming from a private collection and purchased today, by Bologna film collection unit, that offers, besides movies directed and scripted by the Italian master, different film makers who took inspiration from Fellini’s maasterpieces in the past.

The exhibition represents a unique occasion to learn to deeply know and undestand one of the icon of the Italian cinema, beloved and appreciated abroad as well, while totally entering inside obsessions and thoughts that inspired in the past, Fellini’s masterpieces.

The exhibition is open all days from Tuesday to Sunday, at the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna.

This year, Cartasia 2010, the Biennial of Contemporary Art began on June 19th and visitors from Italy and abroad will have the chance to enjoy it until July 18th 2010.

Which is the main theme for this year? The fifth edition of the exhibition has a very eloquent title: “Play Green Creativity”: fun, ecology and creativity interlinked through the artistic use of paper, a simple material being the only protagonist of such an event.

The exhibition will focus on issues like recycling and sustainable development by showing works by international artists coming from all over the world, selected by the competition’s jury. Among the countries represented by the several artists, besides Italy we find Russia, Mexico and England.

Besides the several en plein air installations, many other contemporary art events are scheduled: exhibitions, vernissages, literary meetings, theatre workshops and performances.

In the works, we find four personal exhibitions of artists who use paper as an essential element for expressing their own creativity: Caterina Crepax, Hemmes, Anna Onesti and Hiroaki Asahara. And just this evening, on Thursday July 1st at 6.30 pm, they will be inaugurated at La Cavallerizza: Rituali senza tempo by Anna Onesti, Strappi by Hemmes, Sogni vestiti di Carta by Caterina Crepax and the collective exhibition Amateras.

And of course, such an artistic background couldn’t be without a theatre workshop! Living the Theatre: Teatro Migliorativo/Teatro Verde in fact will focus on the important themes of ecological disasters and will suggest participants new visions of life. The workshop will be held in Lucca, with afternoon and will conclude with a performance. If you would like to take part in the workshop, you have to enroll by July 3rd.

Emotions come back with several performances starring great artists and titles. In fact, since last April 29th, the 73rd edition of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the festival dedicated to the art of music, ballet and opera has come back in Florence. This year, the event brings with it the charming East, in the pursuit of exotic and multi-ethnic themes, from Mozart to contemporary music, with the title “Verso Oriente” (“Toward the East”).

The Maggio Fiorentino playbill schedules great opera titles, stunning concerts and breathtaking performances and shows, among several brand new personalities and artists.

Until June 22nd 2010, a series of performances will take place in Florence nights, keeping you company evening after evening in a mass of emotions in many theatres of Florence with operas, concerts and ballets, in which many great artists will perform, such as Muti, Metha, and others. The venues of such performances will be: Teatro Comunale, Piccolo Teatro, Teatro Pergola, Teatro Goldoni and the Aula Magna at the University.

Among the events in the works, many meetings with authors such as the one scheduled on May 25th with Marcello de Angelis. In addition, a brand new element of this edition is Jazz, which for the first time takes part in the event of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino: in fact, great names of jazz will arrive at the festival, such as the trumpet-player Paolo Fresu.

Considering the great success of the past editions, the Maggio Off Music Contest comes back also this year, the competition where young musicians, groups and singers (between 18 and 30 years old) challenge each other, among very different kinds of music: from rock to blues, from electronic music to metal…so, all the musical dimensions belonging to youth, between innovation and diversity.

As far as ballets is concerned, a performance by Guillaume Côté with Zdenek Konvalina and entitled “Impermanence” is scheduled on Sunday 23rd May.

These and many other performances and shows in Florence, until 22nd June 2010. Don’t miss it!

Conferences, meetings, debates, workshops, journalists, photographers and special guests will make this occasion unique thanks to culture, creativity and curiosity, which will mix together among the pages of a book with a colored cover or among the shy words of a young emerging daydream writer.

This year, Memory will be the key theme of the fair, an issue upon which to reflect. We should think about what it has become for us today, what it represents and how we use it. From technology arrival and a more and more impending presence of databanks managing the most of our plans, thousands questions and doubts arise about our relationship with the past, which now seems to be regardless and nearly annoying.

So, the great issue, the big dilemma, the 1 million dollar question comes back, the thorny relationship between tradition and innovation: what do we have to keep and what do we have to throw away? In order to express your opinion or just to listen to the others’, Turin waits for you in great numbers at Lingotto Fiere from May 13th.

At the exposition, there will be great names such as Umberto Eco, the Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore and the French Claude Lanzmann, the author of the prodigious documentary film about the Shoah, but also of his overwhelming autobiography entitled “La lepre della Patagonia” about the literary and cinematic use of memory.

So, these are the themes that will travel (and make visitors travel) along the different and close paths of science, literature, history and art, and that will be put under the spotlight on the stage of Turin International Book Fair 2010.

In addition, we remind you also the Bookstock Village, the corner completely dedicated to children and teens: a whole pavilion dedicated to entertainment, fun, games and fantasy. Many workshops are scheduled together with interesting meetings, readings, animations and multimedia, in order to get the youngest ones closer to reading and culture, for those who one day will build the future.

Furthermore, the Fair represents a good opportunity for meeting and knowing professionals of the book sector, such as publishers, book agents, librarians, teachers, translators: all those figures that hide behind a good book’s pages (or behind a good book cover!).

The International Book Forum is the area dedicated to the exchange of publication, translation and transposition rights of literary works. So, here it is a Good occasion for Good Contacts!

Finally, the “Premio Salone Internazionale del Libro” comes back with three finalists, Paul Auster, Carlos Fuentes and Amos Oz. Three undisputed masters of the world culture will compete for the final prize as a legion of merit for the work that was able to make literature a necessary instrument for knowledge. You can’t miss it!

This and many other appointments await you all from May 13th to 17th 2010 at Lingotto Fiere in Turin.

Such a festival was born in 2006 from an idea of the current Artistic Director in order to create an innovative event which could give the city and its province a new image and could involve authors of amateur videos from the near cities and seaside resorts of the Western Liguria Riviera.

But such a renowned festival, since its first edition, had a national connotation, because many authors coming from all over Italy took part in the competition, and different competitive sections were created.

Nowadays, the Festival counts 685 works entered from 51 different countries. What else? Well, the Video Festival of Imperia has been recently included in the list of the 13 most important cinema festivals in the world, indicated and surveyed by UNESCO: un unbelievable result for a 4 years old competition!

This year, the event presents a new category called “Explorer”, which will be open to the national and international public showing Tourist and Naturalistic documentary films.

In addition, we will find again the second edition of the “Festival of the Festivals”, the competitive category dedicated to all the other International Festivals that will participate in the contest with the works awarded in their last edition.

Furthermore, we remind you also the original Graphic Competition, conceived for the creation of the image that would have represented the 5th edition of the festival. More than 100 works to select and 25 awards to give to winners.

For further information about the city of Imperia and the Region of Liguria, please take a look at our brand new online tourist guide about Liguria: www.aboutliguria.com.
