In the Region of Liguria, La Spezia celebrates St. Joseph’s Day

Once again, from March 19th to 21st 2010, La Spezia is going to celebrate St. Joseph’s Day, patron saint of the city, with its famous town fair.

The city of La Spezia, located in the Eastern Riviera of the Region of Liguria, every year hosts thousands visitors coming from other Italian regions. Traditionally, the town fair counts about 800 typical stalls belonging to hawkers and craftsmen coming from the province of La Spezia and the neighboring Regions - Emilia Romagna and Tuscany -  and from Northern Italy.

The event was conceived in 1565 in order to develop the trade of the area. In fact, visitors will find on sale many typical products, delicacies, sweets, toys, clothes and shoes, junk jewelry and any sort of household and gift items.

Mapping the Studio in Venice: a François Pinault’s Collection

Punta della Dogana, the triangular-shaped Center for Contemporary Art located in Venice, since last June 6th has been hosting many works belonging to François Pinault’s collection.

The former monumental port of the city will host a permanent exhibition entitled “Mapping the Studio: Artists from the François Pinault Collection” until June 6th 2010. Knights and Templars in a special Exhibition in Turin

Since November 28th 2009, an interesting exhibition dedicated to the legendary knights templar, soldiers and crusaders is under way at the complex of Venaria Reale in Turin.

The exhibition, entitled “Knights. From the Templars to Napoleon” will take place until April 11th 2010, so visitors will have still a few months to retrace the history of such valorous and brave knights who have been portrayed and shown in about 120 works on display: statues, paintings, dresses, wonderful armours, precious jewels and rare manuscripts. A real treasure to marvel at, in all its splendour and majesty.

In fact, the exhibition, organized by the Consorzio di Valorizzazione Culturale La Venaria Reale and hosted by the Reggia, is aimed to tell the several stories of the different knightly orders belonging to different ages, from Middle Ages to Renaissance, who fought in the name of Christ (more…)

ArteGenova : The 6th Exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Art

ArteGenova” comes back in the city of Genoa, in Liguria, and spreads its own creativity. An event entirely dedicated to all modern and contemporary art-addicted and simple curious people. Last Days for Viareggio Carnival 2010

February, the month of carnivals, arrived finally in the city of Viareggio! From the last day of January, with appointments on February 7th, 14th, 16th 2010, the streets of the city become a colorful parade of real works of art, all inspired by the actualities from all over the world. And now, you have still the last day to visit Viareggio: on February 21st!

BLOOMING SANREMO 2010

The festival “bloomed” for the first time in 1904 in honor of the Goddess Flora and, since then, it started its annual edition with a brake from 1966 until 1980.

MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI AN ARCHITECT IN ROME

a project of michelangelo buonarrotiA special exhibition, opened on October 6th, 2009 and dedicated to the extraordinary work of Michelangelo Buonarroti as an architect, under the organization of Musei Capitolini in Rome is approaching to its end. For those who haven’t seen it and wanted to do so, the last day is February 7th, 2010. Beside the famous works in Florence, Siena, Bologna, Venice, the one made in Rome is considered to be among the most important.
Michelangelo had lived in Rome between 1505 and 1516, and afterwards from 1534 until his death in 1564, and during this forty-years long period the artist made numerous great projects, some of them realized, the others unfortunately remained on sheets of paper.
The exhibition is divided in 17 sections organized chronologically and it contains 105 works that remained to testify about the extraordinary inventions of Michelangelo. (more…)

The enchanting Fashion of Pitti Immagine comes back in Florence

The great fashion-event comes back in the city of Florence. The 77th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo and Pitti W_Woman Precollection n°5 come back at Fortezza da Basso in Florence.

This year, we remind you the new special layout designed by the architect Elio di Franco in order to pay homage to the brand Everlast which celebrates its 100th anniversary, and the debut of a cult contemporary jeanswear brand, Denham from Holland, and other international debuts in the field of fashion.

Still a few days for Francesca Woodman’s Photography in Siena

You will have still a few days to visit Francesca Woodman’s exhibition at Sms Contemporanea, the contemporary art center of Santa Maria della Scala Museum in Siena.

In fact, the exhibition, which is under way since last September, will end on 10th January 2010, and until then visitors will have the chance to marvel at 114 pictures, among which there are some unpublished pieces. So, if you intend to give a look at it in these days, we would like to give you a short introduction to the artist.

She was born in 1958, daughter of the artists Betty and George Woodman, and she began to work in the field of photography when she was just 13 years old, when she created her first self-portrait. Later on, the artist kept on taking pictures of herself in domestic settings, in the nature, alone or with friends, during actions and planned performances. Francesca committed suicide in January 1981, at the age of just 22 years old.

Epiphany 2010 in Italy…Events and Celebrations

The famous old lady called Befana and beloved by all Italian children is coming to Italy!

With her old tatty shoes, this funny and lovely old lady has always made children, teens and adults very happy, bringing sweets, candies and chocolates in her multicolored socks!

This year, you will have the chance to see the Befana and to celebrate her in several Italian cities and villages, which want to go on with traditions.

For instance, in Rome there will be the 25th edition of the beloved event “Viva la Befana” (“Long Live the Befana”), the traditional historic and folkloristic costumed parade which will bring to the capital many musical bands, folkloristic groups, in a historical commemoration with hundreds people who will parade following the Wise Men and the Befana along Via della Conciliazione.
