navigli-leonardo-milano2.jpg“Milano dell’acqua” (”Milan & Waters”) is the name of a particular and suggestive event which takes place in these days in Milan and is born to value and appreciate the landscape and the history around the city of Milan, sometimes unknown by its own inhabitants.

The event has started on 14th February and is divided into a list of appointments which will give foreigners and people from Milan the opportunity to discover the territorial waters of the city through an unusual and suggestive itinerary, from the city Aquarium, to the Navigli and covered water channels of the city.

There will be 20 appointments which will lead all the participants in the historic, artistic and cultural reconstruction of the hidden part of Milan, certainly the most beautiful and interesting one.

Among many cultural projects, there are also lots of events for kids, and for all the participants there’s a brochure of the route full of images of the most beautiful water places.

Milano dell’acqua” is part of the project “Cento Milano” (”One Hundred Milan”) and, as expected, it represents the fourth event, which will be followed in May by (more…)

I Navigli di Leonardo da Vinci a MilanoThanks to About Milan and Paesionline.com in the last few days we rediscovered the beauty and the historical and scientific importance of the Navigli of Milan. To our astonishment we have discovered that there is a company that organizes, as a result of the last year’s success, excursions on the Navigli of Leonardo during the whole summer.

In fact, until 30th September it is possible to book an excursion on the Navigli on three different routes:

  • The Valley Line: from Alzaia Naviglio Grande 4 to dam “Conchetta”, passing along Darsena of Milan;
  • The line Delizie: along the route Robecco sul Naviglio - Castelletto di Cuggiono;
  • The line Parco Sud that unravels along the path that connects Milan with Gaggiano.

It is very unusual that the term “Navigli”, in Milan, is identified with only the two opened routes of Navigio Grande and Naviglio Pavese and in more general sense the area between the two navigable canals characterized by the presence of numerous nightspots.

In fact, many people don’t know, and here we come to the usual fact, that the Navigli were used not only to transport different kinds of merchandise to Milan, but also to transport the marble of Candoglia used in the construction of Milan’s Cathedral, and in more recent times, to transport the rolls of paper used by the typewriters of Corriere della Sera.

Discover the city of Water… under Rome!A new incredible suggestion, read and discover it. The Vicus Caprarius, called also “La Città dell’Acqua” (The city of Water), is an archaeological area in the quarter of Trevi, a few metres from the most popular fountain in the world: the Trevi Fountain. 8 metres underground, in a suggestive atmosphere, are visible different levels of an ancient district on the Caprarius Road (Vicus Caprarius).

In the enchanting ruins it’s possible to see water cistern, labirinth, staircases, passages, domus from IV century a.D. and many archeological find like amphora, coins, votive statues. In the Vicus Caprarius the same water of Trevi Fountain gushes out…
