Oil festival in Montepescali, 2012

On November 19th and 20th, the typical Tuscan “Oil Festival” will be held in the little town of Montepescali (Grosseto).

The Oil Festival in Montepescali is not only an exhibition of the local products and oil or a tasting of several kinds of Tuscan food, but also a meeting point for craftsmen with their own characteristic objects and a place where people can enjoy moments of musical entertainment and fun, especially families and children.

In addition, as you will see, Montepescali has a wonderful view including also the French island of Corsica. This little town is also called the “balcony of the Maremma“.

Cloisters of Columbus’ Time

Let’s celebrate the discoverer of the New Continent at the several cloisters of Columbus’ time in Genoa.

Like every year, Genoa will host the traveling historical parade called “Cloisters in the time of Columbus”, on October 14th (the Sunday which is the closest to October 12th, date of the discovery of America).

As we all know – though the Spanish keep on denying it – Christopher Columbus was in fact Italian, as he was born in Genoa. Its native city has thus decided to celebrate him with this traveling feast through the ancient cloisters, where he spent his youth.

Traditional Pieve Fair in Sinalunga, a few steps from Siena

During the week of celebrations on the occasion of Madonna del Rosario, on Tuesday 9th October, the Pieve Fair comes back in Sinalunga, a village located in Val di Chiana near Siena (Tuscany).

Also called “Fierone” (Great Fair) for its large dimensions, it’s definitely an unmissable event!

In the past, the fair took place around the church of San Pietro ad Mensulas and it was very famous for the cattle and swine market.

St Michael Feast and Donkey Race in Carmignano

St Michael Feast was born in 16th century in a “sacred and profane” context and it offers visitors musical entertainment, folk songs, games and much more!

It takes place in September, from 28th to 30th, during which the four districts of the little town of Carmignano (in the province of Prato, Tuscany) challenge each other showing their own parade, with music, costumes and decorated floats.

The districts are distinguished by name and colour: white for “la Torre” (the Tower district), yellow for “il Leone” (the Lion), green for “l’Arte” (the Art) and blue for “l’Arcangelo” (Archangel).
