Start to Run!!! The Marathon of Rome is come back

Here we go again! The marathon of Rome is coming again, this year at its 16th edition and it intends to pay homage to the legendary Olympic Ethiopian champion Abebe Bikila, 50 years after his barefoot challenge at the Olympic Games of Rome in 1960.

Are you ready to run? The start is scheduled on 21st March 2010 at 9.00 am from Via dei Fori Imperiali (near the Coliseum) in Rome, in order to start a lovely spring with a day entirely dedicated to sport and fun.

In the Region of Liguria, La Spezia celebrates St. Joseph’s Day

Once again, from March 19th to 21st 2010, La Spezia is going to celebrate St. Joseph’s Day, patron saint of the city, with its famous town fair.

The city of La Spezia, located in the Eastern Riviera of the Region of Liguria, every year hosts thousands visitors coming from other Italian regions. Traditionally, the town fair counts about 800 typical stalls belonging to hawkers and craftsmen coming from the province of La Spezia and the neighboring Regions - Emilia Romagna and Tuscany -  and from Northern Italy.

The event was conceived in 1565 in order to develop the trade of the area. In fact, visitors will find on sale many typical products, delicacies, sweets, toys, clothes and shoes, junk jewelry and any sort of household and gift items.

Last Days for Viareggio Carnival 2010

February, the month of carnivals, arrived finally in the city of Viareggio! From the last day of January, with appointments on February 7th, 14th, 16th 2010, the streets of the city become a colorful parade of real works of art, all inspired by the actualities from all over the world. And now, you have still the last day to visit Viareggio: on February 21st!

“Sensation”: Venice Carnival 2010

6 senses for 6 districts - Venice Carnival 2010 this year have begun its edition on February 6thn and will end tomorrow February 16th, 2010. Like every year, there’s a long list of sensational happenings organized all over Venice. Some of them are to discover, some are already announced, others are to be created by yourself, simply putting on a mask and letting yourself be overwhelmed by carnival spell.

This fascinating city revives every year the ancient tradition from the time of Serenissima. It is believed that the year of 1296 is the one when the famous Carnival became an official festivity. At the beginning, the Carnival lasted much longer, about 6 weeks, or even a couple of months. Venetians bore masks in many occasions and, hiding their identity, they felt free to do all sorts of things, which presented Venice as a city of unrestrained pleasure and party. BLOOMING SANREMO 2010

The festival “bloomed” for the first time in 1904 in honor of the Goddess Flora and, since then, it started its annual edition with a brake from 1966 until 1980.

Epiphany 2010 in Italy…Events and Celebrations

The famous old lady called Befana and beloved by all Italian children is coming to Italy!

With her old tatty shoes, this funny and lovely old lady has always made children, teens and adults very happy, bringing sweets, candies and chocolates in her multicolored socks!

This year, you will have the chance to see the Befana and to celebrate her in several Italian cities and villages, which want to go on with traditions.

For instance, in Rome there will be the 25th edition of the beloved event “Viva la Befana” (“Long Live the Befana”), the traditional historic and folkloristic costumed parade which will bring to the capital many musical bands, folkloristic groups, in a historical commemoration with hundreds people who will parade following the Wise Men and the Befana along Via della Conciliazione.

Celebrate this New Year’s Eve in Italy!

Celebrating the New Year with Charlie Chaplin, in Milan

The last film exhibition of 2009 and the first of 2010 will take place in Milan in company with Stanley Kubrick and Charlie Chaplin.

At Fondazione Cineteca Italiana in Milan, precisely at Spazio Oberdan located in Viale Vittorio Veneto, there will be several interesting appointments waiting for you with the most famous pieces of cinema. Yes, because the cineteca has scheduled a rich program dedicated to all big-screen movies addicts.

In fact, Wednesday 23rd December 2009 will be a day entirely dedicated to the master of silent film: Charlie Chaplin, with the special event “Un brindisi di Natale con Charlie Chaplin” (“A Christmas Toast with Charlie Chaplin”), an original way of cineteca’s to wish a merry Christmas to all the cinema addicts, in company with the most famous figure in cinema history, a face never to be forgotten.
