On Sunday September, 4th 2011, the traditional and very ancient Historical Regatta comes back in Venice with the typical Venetian rowing, a unique discipline born in Venice hundreds years ago.

68th Venice Film Festival – August, 31st – September, 10th 2011

Once again, the 68th edition of Venice Film Festival will be organized by Venice Biennale and will take place at Lido in Venice from August, 31st to September, 10th 2011.

The Festival wants to encourage the knowledge and the diffusion of international cinema through all the shapes of art, show and industry, following the spirit of freedom and tolerance. In addition, the festival will include exhibitions to pay homage to important personages, as a contribute to a better awareness

Redentore Festival 2011 in Venice

Redentore Festival in the beautiful and charming city of Venice is coming back. It’s one of the most ancient and traditional events of Venice and since 1576 it has been celebrating.

This year the event will be held on July, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th 2011. Venetians love this kind of celebration and most of all they wait for the famous and magical night of fireworks in the lagoon. A real light show surrounded by a charming atmosphere!

In the past, such an event was celebrated to remember the end of one of the most serious plague epidemics in Venice.

On Saturday 16th July 2011, Venetians will begin with the preparations of the boats and the deliciousness for the dinner. Visitors will have the chance to see the celebrations of Redentore Festival taking a seat in the several balconies, on boats or in the streets of the city, even enjoying one of the many interesting itineraries in Venice.

And now, let’s have a look at the events scheduled:

Saturday 16th July 2011 – At 7 p.m., the votive bridge made up of punts joining the Redentore Church with the Giudecca Island will be open. At 9.30 p.m., the will be a concert of Banda Musicale di Tessera C.C.R.T. at Fondamenta Zattere who will play Venetian traditional music. At 11.30 p.m., a striking fireworks show will wonder the crowd in the St. Mark’s Basin (on the background of the famous, stunning Piazza San Marco) until midnight.

Sunday 17th July 2011 – At 11.30 a.m. Giardini della Marinaressa (Riva Sette Martiri) will be open to the public. The Redentore Regattas will begin at 4 p.m., whereas at 7 p.m. the Holy Mass will be held at Redentore Church.

In addition, an extraordinary public transportation service will be activated on this occasion. In the night of Saturday 16th July, the following trains will be extraordinarily activated from Venice to the main cities of the Veneto Region:

- From Venice Santa Lucia to Mestre: departures at 01:01 – 01:10 – 01:20 – 01:50 – 02:05 a.m.
- From Venice Santa Lucia to Padova: departures at 02:10 a.m., with stops in all the stations but Porto Marghera;
- From Venice Santa Lucia to Treviso: departures at 02:42 a.m., with stops in Mestre, Mogliano Veneto, Preganziol;
- From Venice Santa Lucia to Vicenza: departures at 02:50 a.m., with stops in all the stations but Porto Marghera.

Finally, the “People Mover”, the cable railway linking Tronchetto Island to the maritime station and Piazzale Roma, in the night of Saturday 16th July will be active until 3 a.m. (last departure at 2.50 a.m.).

56th Historical Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics in Venice

The traditional competition among the 8-rowers galleons representing the ancient Italian Maritime Republics, Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice, this year will take place in Venice on Sunday June, 12th 2011.

As a matter of fact, such an event, born in 1955, every year takes place in one of the four cities that commemorate the most important historical happenings linked to their own city.

As usual, the race will be preceded by the renowned historical parade, during which each Republic will wear period clothes and proudly show in the streets of Venice the flags with the coat of arms of its own city,
