Turin has the pleasure to present the 16^th edition of Artissima, the International Fair of Contemporary Art, which will take place from 6^th to 8^th November 2009 in the area of Lingotto Fiere.

This extraordinary exhibition represents one of the more prestigious events dedicated to future horizons of present art and to its experiments. It’s an unfailing occasion for both simple lovers and expert collectors. The fair provides the opportunity to meet artists coming from all over the world, to think about the present changes in the field of art, to convey young emerging authors and art galleries of the new generation. Here names and trends that tomorrow will matter are chosen, here “the present future” of art is planned.

The newest artistic expressions are presented to visitors divided into several sections:

A brand new event in Pisa: The House of Mirrors, from 5^th to 7^th November 2009, at Stazione Leopolda.

It’s an innovative and alternative art exhibition, which displays a series of works inspired by the same subject: the picture of a human face, selected by the organization team through a photographic contest. Starting from this common matrix, each one of the participants produced a unique creation, a personal work of art, resulting from his own techniques, inspirations and emotions.

From artist to artist, also the language used can change, and the possibilities are as many as the number of sections in which the exhibition is divided into: Sculpture, Painting, Computer Art, Comics, Video, Tales, Poetry.

Finally, a global message – that is at the same time the founding idea of the project, comes out:

This weekend in fact, on Saturday 26^th and Sunday 27^th September 2009, there will be a fully cultural event: as usual, also this year all the European countries will celebrate the European Heritage Days, which were conceived in 1991 by the European Council in order to encourage and promote the cultural dialogue and exchange between European countries.

As every year, MiBAC participates in the event with the slogan “Italy, the treasure of Europe” and organizes throughout Italy several initiatives intended to increase the value of Italian culture and heritage, with the aim to share all this great richness with other European countries.

Until September 13^th in fact, the picturesque palace will host an event entitled “Spinola Contemporanea” (“Contemporary Spinola”) which is not just a simple exhibition, but it represents a real itinerary inside the building located in Genoa old town, on which 35 Italian and foreign contemporary artists have been working for a year, working hard in order to search a subjective and personal way for interpreting its characteristics.

This itinerary (in a class by itself) was conceived just on the occasion of the 50^th anniversary of the palace opening as a National Gallery, after the last two descendants of the Spinola family, Franco and Paolo, gave as

This summer, the wonderful Uffizi Gallery in Florence will host until 30^th September a really unique exhibition entitled “Il Fasto e la Ragione. Arte del Settecento” (“Splendour and Reason. Art in 18^th Century”).

As one can clearly deduce from the title, the exhibition traces a complex historical itinerary which starts from the first paintings ordered by Cosimo 3^rd and by Ferdinando de’ Medici, until the arrival of the Enlightenment king Leopold, Duke of Lorraine, and of the first foreign purchasers to Tuscany.

Therefore, this is a not-to-be-missed occasion for analysing the interesting evolution of taste and painting techniques starting from the splendour and the eccentricity of the late Baroque movement, until the classic ideals belonging to the 18^th century Neoclassicism and the famous “Grand Tour” of the artists.

In addition, the whole exhibition has been organized by very important personages,

A new expression is rising in the art world, especially among young artists from all over the world, and every year Venice pays homage to its artworks.

We are talking about Fiber Art, in other words, artworks created with textile fibers and materials of animal or vegetable origins. The exhibition is held once again at Palazzo Mocenigo in Venice, this year with a really particular title: “Matrix Natura” and it will be open to the public until August, 31^st.

54 mini textiles (this is the name of Fiber Art works) will be put on view on the first floor of the museum, created by the genius of artists coming from 51 different countries of the world.

This event, now on its 35^th edition, will fill the halls of the Gallery of Contemporary Art Edarcom Europa with unique and colorful works, until 24^th April.

Until April 19^th, at Carlo Bilotti Museum at Aranciera of Villa Borghese, the exhibition dedicated to the great metaphysical genius Giorgio de Chirico is under way.

This event is part of the wide range of exhibitions organized between 2008 and 2010, entitled “Immortalità a Giorgio de Chirico” (“Immortality for Giorgio de Chirico”), on the occasion of the 120^th recurrence after his birth.

This exhibition is absolutely different from the ones dedicated to the painter until this moment, inasmuch as for the first time there will not be his paintings on display, but his drawings. The exhibition, entitled “La magia della linea. 110 disegni di de Chirico dalla Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico” (“The magic of line. 110 drawings by De Chirico from the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico”), puts on display a genre which has always been considered subordinate in comparison to painting.

This year Futurism celebrates its 100^th birthday, and Milan, the city which inspired the artworks belonging to the greatest painters of futurist vanguard, celebrates with a really spectacular exhibition: “Futurismo 1909 – 2009 Velocità+Arte+Azione” (“Futurism 1909 – 2009 Speed+Art+Action”).

The National University Library of Turin in the near future will house a really special exhibition entirely dedicated to a unique artist, “Goya: I disastri della Guerra” (“Goya: Disasters of War”).

The title says it all. In fact the exhibition, which will take place from 15^th January to 28^th February, will show as absolute protagonists “Los Desastres de la Guerra” (“Disasters of War”) by Francisco Goya, the exceptionally gifted Spanish painter and engraver.

The “Desastres” are 82 original palimpsests engraved by the artist, who tells the several wars and conflicts which for years afflicted the whole Europe, during a very important historical period, marked by deep political, cultural and institutional changes.

In this way the exhibition, through these extremely striking palimpsests, retraces the history of Europe, so strong and evocative almost to tell the history of the whole world, in a linear way, laying out and organizing the pictures in a perfect chronological order.

We don’t know exactly when Goya began to engrave his palimpsests. According to majority, it seems that he began between 1808 and 1809, but kept on work some years later, in 1820, with the “Caprichos Enfáticos” (the third section of the artworks’ series that refers to the Absolutist period with social-political criticism).
