Taste n.5: The Gastronomy Fair comes back in Florence

The most expected and refined itinerary into taste will come back soon: Taste n. 5, as usual offered by Pitti Immagine.

This year, the renowned gastronomic event will take place from 13th to 15th March 2010 at Stazione Leopolda in Florence, for delighting and satisfying the palate of expert or simply curious people. Three days full of tasting, buying, delicacies and events dedicated to food.

Taste. In viaggio con le diversità del gusto will take place in a great showroom featuring 200 specialist and élite companies which will let you discover and rediscover the treasures of Italian food and the biological diversities of food in the global age.

Taste is an exciting experience which everyone can try, from Haute Cuisine to simple visitors, for whoever loves cooking, special ingredients and high quality food.

The enchanting Fashion of Pitti Immagine comes back in Florence

The great fashion-event comes back in the city of Florence. The 77^th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo and Pitti W_Woman Precollection n°5 come back at Fortezza da Basso in Florence.

This year, we remind you the new special layout designed by the architect Elio di Franco in order to pay homage to the brand Everlast which celebrates its 100^th anniversary, and the debut of a cult contemporary jeanswear brand, Denham from Holland, and other international debuts in the field of fashion.

With Florence Noel, It’s already Christmas in Florence

Snowflakes and polar bears, sparkling lights and gifts, reindeers and elfs assistants of Santa Claus… Is it Lapland? No, it’s Florence!

From 5th to 13th December 2009, the Stazione Leopolda will become a magic place hosting Florence Noel, a trade fair dedicated to Christmas time and its lovers. You will also be amazed by “Polar Ice”, in which the North pole and its inhabitants are represented with 5 kilometers of Christmas lights.

But the best has yet to come: at Florence Noel you will have the chance to visit Santa Claus’s house, perfectly reproduced, and you may also meet Father Christmas in person!

“Tuscany Feast” 2009. When the past teaches the progress

Tuscany can boast of several records, especially one: this region was the first in the world to abolish the capital punishment. In fact on November 30^th 1796, the enlightened Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo banished confiscation, torture and death penalty through a single law.

Since 2001, Tuscany has been celebrating this historical occurrence with an official feast, which even schedules a holiday for the schools of the ancient Grand Duchy and a program rich of events spread on all the regional area.

This initiative aims not only to remind and celebrate a defining moment of modern history, but in particular to reflect on the present and the future of the whole mankind. It’s important to notice, in fact, that the capital punishment is still applied in many countries in the world, and that Italian State is fighting for its abolition with an international moratorium at UN.

Hence this topic is a living matter, together with other related issues as democracy, peace, equality and justice all over the world.

Tuscany Feast so deals with values which are not only strictly related to death penalty, but also to other current problems, such as dialogue among different cultures and inclusion, sexual equality and deaths on-the-job. Firenze Marathon 2009: running between history and art

You should visit the most beautiful Italian cities… with running shoes on! After Venice Marathon, which took place some weeks ago, now it’s time for the Florence Marathon, whreas the Marathon of Milan will “change season” this year, and will be organized in spring.

On Sunday, November 29th, 10,000 athletes are expected at the beginning of the 42 km Florentine race, a sport event whose importance and popularity are exponentially growing year by year.
It is not by chance that noteworthy top-runners participate in the 2009 edition of this competition, included in the calendar of the official international races. For example, the Italian athletes Danilo Goffi and Denis Curzi, seeking for a call for the 2010 European Athletics Championship in Barcelona, for whom this marathon will be a really important showcase to show their skills.

Festival of Creativity 2009 in Florence – from October 15th to 18th

At Fortezza da Basso in Florence, creativity comes back from October 15^th to 18^th 2009. The fourth edition of the Festival of Creativity is entirely dedicated to the city, the place where creativity becomes innovation, production and development.

In fact, the theme of the edition 2009 will be “The City of the Future”, closely bound to innovation, technology and the development of an ecologically sustainable society.

In the 4 days at Fortezza in fact, several architects, photographers and designers will compare each other by talking about the urban metamorphosis which are taking place in the most important capitals in the world, like Brasilia, Dubai, Berlin or Tokyo.

The programme 2009, in order to be at the same level of the previous successful three editions, also this year suggests four days full of meetings, talks, exhibitions, workshops and performances with international artists, scientists, philosophers and intellectuals coming from every corner of the world

Last Days to marvel at Donatello’s restored David

Since November 29^th 2008, the Bargello National Museum in Florence offers to the public the chance to marvel at the legendary Donatello’s restored bronze David.

The restoration was carried out in a worksite open to the public in the Donatello Room, where the masterpiece is on display since 1887, on the occasion of the 40^th anniversary of Florence’ flood (4^th November 1966).

The David (or Mercury) is a bronze sculpture created by Donatello around 1440, it is 158 cm high, has a maximum diameter 51 cm long and is probably the most famous and admired work of the artist, emblematic symbol of the Italian fifteenth century, with many not still revealed meanings.

Italian Sidewalk Astronomy, in Florence Historical Squares

In Florence, the special event “Astronomia in piazza” (“Astronomy in the public squares”) keeps on going on; we are talking about a project started on May 3^rd 2009, which will end only on December 31^st.

Such an idea was created by the astronomer Emiliano Ricci, in cooperation with the department of culture of the City of Florence and the Unesco Office, on the occasion of the 400^th anniversary of the first sky observations thanks to Galileo Galilei’s telescope.

The event’s aim, based on the activity of the American “sidewalk astronomers”, is to observe stars, planets and the galaxy from the largest and most striking Florentine historical squares, such as Piazza della Signoria, Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Repubblica and (more…)

Pitti Immagine presents “Fragranze N.7″ in Florence

Dear fragrances and perfume lovers, finally the seventh edition of Fragranze comes back in Florence, the exclusive and glamorous event presented by Pitti Immagine, which will take place at the Stazione Leopolda, this year showing a brand new location.

From 11^th to 13^th September 2009, Fragranze N° 7 will have as protagonists the world of artistic and selective perfumery and the evolution of olfactory culture. The event’s theme, created by the architect Alessandro Moradei, is fluidity, conveyed by light, iridescence and transparent bubbles that are carried over into the stands and the exhibition area.

There will be 160 different great international brands in the field of high quality perfumery participating in the 7^th edition of this great event: here you will find the most exclusive fragrances, several original body care and wellness products and any sort of high quality crafts and unique scented accessories.

The event presents a rich calendar of events organized by Pitti Immagine and the exhibitors, all to discover and “sniff”: talk shows, installations, photography exhibitions and presentations.

Il Profumo del Futuro: Let’s begin with four interesting talk-shows at the Alcatraz area of the Stazione Leopolda, where Italian and international experts from the world of quality perfumery, wine-and-food, fashion, design and communication on Friday afternoon 11^th and the morning of 12^th September will discuss on topics such as: “What will the future smell like? Do we all have the same type of nose?”.

Among the new elements of this edition, we remind you Spring, the special area dedicated to the young “brand new fragrances brands” which for the first time will have the chance to make their debuts with the international public and to be launched on the market.

Hundreds of Mini Colored Paper Lanterns: this is the Feast of “Rificolona” in Florence

The wonderful city of Florence uses to commemorate its ancient folkloristic traditions, and also this year, it will celebrate the original and cheerful feast of Rificolona.

The Rificolona in fact, still today remains the traditional Florentine feast, which is celebrated with a lot of events, shows and parades which take place in all the city districts and which several Florentine citizens and foreigners take part to.

The word “Rificolona” derives from the ancient term “fierucola”, which means “little but important feast”. It dates back to the years before the 20^th century, when on every September 7^th the farmers living in the surrounding area used to gather and walked with small colored-paper lanterns from Vallombrosa and Impruneta hills towards SS. Annunziata square, in the centre of the city, to pay homage to the Virgin Mary, and also to sell their hand-made products under the loggia with arcades of Spedale degli Innocenti on the occasion of the Fair (more…)
