History reflected on the Murano Glass

Finally in Venice a big exhibition has been organized, dedicated to one of the most important resources of the city: glass.

Until the 1st of May 2009, you will have the chance to admire about 135 works, never shown before, exposed in the incredible scenery of the Glass Museum of Murano. “Ritrovare il Museo: Murano 1797 - 1859” was an idea started with the aim of increasing the value of the art of glass which gave popularity to Murano in the past, by turning the village into one of the most famous and appreciated places in the world. The event consists of a variety of exhibitions which carefully retrace the history of Murano glass, and giving attention to one peculiar historic moment, which was the fall of the San Marco Republic in 1797 when, due to a variety of incursion by foreign countries, a time of deep economic crisis started and big masters of glass working reacted to it with the use of creativity and deep innovations (more…)

The Museum is not a Drag

In Milan “Il Museo non è una palla” (“The Museum is not a drag”)…no, I’m not making fun of you, this is just the title of the great review of events which the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci of Milan offers for Christmas.

Continuously from 20^th December until 6^th January, the museum will turn into a book of history and science, which will have all the answers to all curious people’ questions.

Of course, the chapters of this book are the numerous initiatives in the works; a rich calendar full of activities, exhibitions and events in fact will lead you in the pursuit of the secrets of important scientific and technological studies and researches.

Macchiaioli Painters and Photography: the History of Art exposed at Museo Alinari of Florence

The whole year, which is coming to an end, has shown as absolute protagonist of Florence painting universe, Giovanni Fattori, undisputed master of the Italian Macchiaioli.

Four different exhibitions have been organized in honor of this great artist, four exhibitions which have shown the public hundreds of significant and exceptionally beautiful artworks, some of which have been subject of an exhibition for the first time.

In fact, after “Fattori and Naturalism in Tuscany”, “The places of Giovanni Fattori” and “The other side of the soul. Portraits of Giovanni Fattori”, in the Museo Alinari halls of Florence, the extraordinary exhibition “Macchiaioli Painters and Photography” has just come and it will last until 15^th February 2009.

The event will exhibit about 200 artworks among pictures and photographs, and it is organized in order to lead visitors through an artistic and historical itinerary, created by pictures and eternally captured in photographs.  The last exhibition in chronological order, but surely not least as regarding importance, it entirely faces the theme of the relationship between the painting of the greatest representatives of Macchiaioli movement and (more…)

Merry Christmas…in Rome!

As many people know, Christmas is a really important and significant day in every region of our country. Everyone hurries up for buying presents, the cities shine brightly with their gleaming lights, and there are Christmas trees everywhere, but in particular the Italian city of Christmas is…Rome!

Rome is so beautiful that it’s always difficult to stay far from it, but with the Coliseum covered by shining lights and brilliant and colored decorations…well, it’s an unmissable spectacle.

Therefore, if you haven’t seen Rome yet or you would like to go to once again, Christmas time is the perfect period, also because the city is cheerful, festive and most of all on the occasion of this festivity, many events are organized such as concerts, markets and festivals.

This year, “Natale all’ Auditorium” (“Christmas at Auditorium”) and the traditional “Mercatino di Natale in Piazza Navona” (“Christmas market in Navona Square”) will make Christmas Rome a special Christmas.

Lucca pays homage to Pompeo Batoni, the Grand Tour’s Portraitist

Lucca, one of the most beautiful cities in Versilia, dedicates an exhibition to a great Italian 18th century artist: “Pompeo Batoni l’Europa delle Corti e il Grand Tour” (“Pompeo Batoni, Europe with its Courts and the Grand Tour”).

Organized to celebrate the 300th anniversary since the artist’s birth, the exhibition has been inaugurated the last 6th December, and the picturesque rooms of Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) of Lucca will house it until 29th March 2009.

With this exhibition, the entire artistic itinerary of Pompeo Batoni will be retraced, with a path which is branched into 100 artworks belonging to some European and American public and private collections, testimony of the great artistic sensibility of this painter, who (more…)

In Venice an Exhibition to give voice to Depero’s Futurism

At Correr Museum of Venice, an extraordinary exhibition is underway, and it’s dedicated to one of the founding fathers of Italian Futurism, Fortunato Depero. The exhibition’s name is “DEPERO - Opere della collezione Fedrizzi” (“Depero - Works from the Fedrizzi Collection”).

The exhibition, one of the many ones organized by the Fondazione Musei Civici of Venice on the occasion of the centennial of futurism, will be housed by the Correr Museum until 1^st March 2009. This great event had been made possible thanks to the Fedrizzi family, who agreed to gift the private collection belonging to Giuseppe Fedrizzi as a long-term loan to Fondazione Ca’ Pesaro.

The event displays about 80 artworks which date back to the period between 1914 and 1956, and are the real proof of Depero’s artistic genius, who succeeded in giving movement to each of his creations with the use of oils, temperas, charcoal drawings and advertising sketches.

With Florence Noël it’s a Magic Christmas in Florence!

Do you feel like a traditional Christmas?

“Florence Noel” is an exhibition market organized every year by Stazione Leopolda to put the Christmas of our dreams up. From 29^th November to 8^th December in fact, the Stazione fills with lights, colours and fragrances typical of Christmas time.

“Tuscany Feast” 2008

On Sunday 30^th November, the whole Tuscany celebrates the anniversary of death penalty’s abolition.

“Tuscany Feast” is a typical and usual appointment which joins the participation of all citizens and the Region of Tuscany institutions.

The origins of this feast date back to a legislative bill, to be more precise, the Penal Reform promulgated on 30^th November 1786 by Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Lorraine. With this reform, Tuscany put an end to the capital punishment, and marked an important moment of civility which would have changed its history forever.

Turin Triennial comes back on its 2nd Edition

The city of Turin represents the capital of the contemporary artistic and architectural avant-garde, and it has always cooperated with the greatest cultural organizations to promote the launch of many young artists.

“T Torino Triennale“ gets under way on its 2^nd edition just from these premises. The Triennial was born from the cooperation with Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and with the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
