Cloisters of Columbus’ Time

Let’s celebrate the discoverer of the New Continent at the several cloisters of Columbus’ time in Genoa.

Like every year, Genoa will host the traveling historical parade called “Cloisters in the time of Columbus”, on October 14th (the Sunday which is the closest to October 12th, date of the discovery of America).

As we all know – though the Spanish keep on denying it – Christopher Columbus was in fact Italian, as he was born in Genoa. Its native city has thus decided to celebrate him with this traveling feast through the ancient cloisters, where he spent his youth.

Genoa Boat Show – October, 6th to 14th

The Boat Show is back in Genoa with its 52nd edition.

One of the leading shows in the world thanks to its extraordinarily wide range of products, Genoa Boat Show offers its visitors the chance to find out about the new trends in the nautical market.

The fair boasts an outstanding exhibition area of 360,000 square yards (of which 120,000 on the water) with pavilions and open-air spaces, at the entrance of Genoa harbour.

9th Festival della Mente in Sarzana: a homage to Creativity and Culture

From 31st August to 2nd September, the charming town of Sarzana (Liguria Region) will celebrate its 9th Festival della Mente: the first European event totally devoted to creativity, directed by Giulio Cogoli and promoted by the Foundation Carispe and the City of Sarzana.

The festival includes about 90 events and activities conceived for adults and children with Italian and foreign philosophers, scientists, writers, artists, musicians, psychoanalysts, historians, actors and directors who started original thoughts and discussions about nature and creativity, some of the most popular features of human skills.

The meetings will take place in the symbolic places of the town, as the “Citadella” (Firmafede Fortress), the Cloister of San Francesco, Matteotti Square

Medieval August in Ventimiglia, 36th edition

Every year in July and August, history becomes the protagonist of Ventimiglia (Liguria Region) and the town is enriched by an atmosphere that never seems to be gone.

Ladies, knights, nobles: common people dressed in medieval costumes enliven the beautiful historical centre, which offers a perfect and charming setting for this event. Every year, the event has a different theme.

The event takes place in the evening with medieval dinners, performances by jugglers and fire eaters, medieval markets, guided tours for discovering the treasures of Ventimiglia and also many concerts.

Film Caravan 2012: the mobile cinema comes back in Liguria

For all cinema addicts, this year one of the best events in the Province of Imperia, the International short film festival, will take place from 31st July to 4th August.

The opening evening, in collaboration with the Circolo Parasio, will be held in Santa Chiara Square, the historical centre of Porto Maurizio.

In the evening, besides two short documentary films, a medium-lenght film will be presented: “Voyage en Sol Majeur” by Georgi Lazarevski (France, 2006 – winner of the audience award at the Lisbon Festival).

 

It is the diary of a film director who takes his ninety-years-old grandfather on a trip to Marocco, where the latter has always dreamed to go to but has never been able to because of his wife’s abhorrence for traveling.
