St Lucy Day Celebrations throughout Italy

Considered the procuress of eyes, the blind, oculists and electricians, the liturgical festival of St Lucy is celebrated on 13th December, some days before summer solstice.

St Lucy’s body, which is currently kept in the Church of San Geremia in Venice, in the past was stolen by the Byzantines in Siracusa and later was purloined by Venetians who conquered Constantinople.

St Lucy celebrations, patron saint of Siracusa, a town located in Sicily, nowadays is a recurring event that crowds many Italian squares with stalls nd stands selling sweets and typical local dishes.

2013 Edition of International Tennis Tournament “Internazionali BNL d’Italia”

In the area of the Olimpic Stadium of Rome, 70th edition of Internazionali BNL d’Italia is ready to begin: it will be held from 11th to 19th May in the beautiful Italian capital. Such a great sport event will take place in the Park of the Italic Court, a very nice location and once again, it will be powered by Italian Tennis Federation and Coni Servizi SPA, with BNL BNP PARIBAS Gruppe as official sponsor.

The international tennis tournament BNL is a very popular event in the world: it is called the “fifth” slam of the season. The Tournament will have the “combined-event” formulation, with male and female challenges divided into nine days. 2013 May Day Concert in Rome

The May Day Concert will be held in Rome, in Piazza del Laterano: once again it is organized by trade unions CIGL, CISL and UIL.

Over the years, this event has become one of the most important ones in Italy: every year, it gathers thousands young and less young people from all regions of Italy; the importance of the event is also confirmed by the fact that people will have the chance to watch the whole concert through a live TV broadcast by RAI.

The 24th edition of the Concert has the title “Music for the new world. Spaces, roots, borders” focusing on the theme of cosmopolitanism and the people of all the countries of the planet. The comic Geppi Cucciari

19th Rome Marathon


On March 17th, a lot of people will run in the magnificent streets of Rome on the occasion of 19th edition of the ACEA Rome Marathon, which this year adopted the UNAR(National Anti-Racial Discrimination, Ministry for Equal Opportunities) slogan: “Ti si apre un mondo, chiudi al razzismo” (A new world opens up to you, close the door on racism”).

Fourteen thousands athletes will compete in the streets of Rome, 6 of whom are from abroad. Rome will be invaded by marathoners from all over the world, and beyond. Besides the marathon, Rome will be in the spotlight of the world for the possible election of the new Pope. In addition, on March 17th, the anniversary of the Union of Italy will be celebrated with a ceremony at the Altare della Patria.
