OTTO HOFMANN. The poetics of Bauhaus

otto hofmann and poetics of bauhausIn 2009 the Bauhaus celebrated its 90th anniversary of existence. For this occasion, the Palazzo Ducale of Genoa hosts, from October 2009 until February 14th, 2010, a retrospective exhibition of one of the most important artists from this school: Otto Hofmann.
The exhibition shows us a wide historic path of life of the artist through his work which definently left its mark on the vanguard of the XX century.
Otto Hofmann tells a story of a difficult life, in a very turbulent period which started in the thirties of the XX century, during his stay at the Bauhaus of Dessau. The story continues through years of the Nazi domination and censorship when a lot of his work was confiscated and accused as degenerated art. Then follows the time of the full immersion in the War and the imprisonment in Russia. A precious collection of watercolor paintings shows us the artist’s feelings and state of mind, horrified by the chaos that was spread all over the Europe.

Firenze Marathon 2009: running between history and art

You should visit the most beautiful Italian cities… with running shoes on! After Venice Marathon, which took place some weeks ago, now it’s time for the Florence Marathon, whreas the Marathon of Milan will “change season” this year, and will be organized in spring.

On Sunday, November 29th, 10,000 athletes are expected at the beginning of the 42 km Florentine race, a sport event whose importance and popularity are exponentially growing year by year.
It is not by chance that noteworthy top-runners participate in the 2009 edition of this competition, included in the calendar of the official international races. For example, the Italian athletes Danilo Goffi and Denis Curzi, seeking for a call for the 2010 European Athletics Championship in Barcelona, for whom this marathon will be a really important showcase to show their skills.

An outstanding stage not only for the qualitative level of the competition, but in particular for the fascinating course and the beautiful locations along which it offers. For example, just think about the starting point: the natural terrace of Piazzale Michelangelo,

The Florence leg of Cavendish and Petacchi

The Giro d’Italia 2009 – at its 92° edition and 100° anniversary this year – Florence leg will see a special competition between an English and an Italian cyclist, both actors of this particular edition of the race.

Yes, because presented on last December at the Gran teatro La Fenice in Venice, the arrival, after 21 legs and 3,395 km, will not be in Milan this year – as usual is, starting from 1950 – but in the capital city of Rome. It could be defined as a backlinks race, from North to South and a little bit to the North again, a very hard race for sprinters taking part on it, even without the usual hard obstacle represented by Alps at the end of the path.

The Tuscan leg of the tour will see the crossover of the provinces of Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa and Florence. The Lido di Camaiore – Florence leg is characterized by a pretty linear way of 176Km – with just one exception represented by the Montemagno climb, just a little bit more difficult for participants – ending the race in viale Abram Lincoln in Florence, near to the historic cycle track of the Cascine area. Except for potential intrusion of Farrar, Davis and Goos, the protagonists of such leg will be with no doubt the English cyclist Cavendish and the Italian Petacchi.

Departure of the Tuscan leg will be at 1,25 p.m. and the expected arrival at about 5,00 – 5,30 p.m.

Giotto and the Fourteenth Century at the Vittoriano in Rome

Until the 29th of June, the Vittorianos structure of Rome will give hospitality to a very important exhibition dedicated to the most important master painting of Middle Ages and of the entire history of art: Giotto.

The event, called “Giotto e il Trecento. Il più sovrano Maestro stato in dipintura” shows the whole decorative course of Giotto, extrapolating them from the cultural context in which Giotto worked. Wonderful works that date back to the period between the 13th century and mid-14th century, that retrace the artistic and stylistic career of Giotto, indicating the crucial stages of his life as a man and artist.

At the exhibition you will find 150 works exposed, among polyptyches, works on tables and sculptures with very rare goldsmith works that testify the stylistic sensibility and

Until April 19th, at Carlo Bilotti Museum at Aranciera of Villa Borghese, the exhibition dedicated to the great metaphysical genius Giorgio de Chirico is under way.

This event is part of the wide range of exhibitions organized between 2008 and 2010, entitled “Immortalità a Giorgio de Chirico” (“Immortality for Giorgio de Chirico”), on the occasion of the 120th recurrence after his birth.

This exhibition is absolutely different from the ones dedicated to the painter until this moment, inasmuch as for the first time there will not be his paintings on display, but his drawings. The exhibition, entitled “La magia della linea. 110 disegni di de Chirico dalla Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico” (“The magic of line. 110 drawings by De Chirico from the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico”), puts on display a genre which has always been considered subordinate in comparison to painting.

On the other hand, De Chirico sustained that drawings were an independent genre, with its good reputation and prestige; the line traced on the paper was a free and spontaneous expression of the human soul, able to
