The Florence leg of Cavendish and Petacchi

The Giro d’Italia 2009 – at its 92° edition and 100° anniversary this year – Florence leg will see a special competition between an English and an Italian cyclist, both actors of this particular edition of the race.

Yes, because presented on last December at the Gran teatro La Fenice in Venice, the arrival, after 21 legs and 3,395 km, will not be in Milan this year – as usual is, starting from 1950 – but in the capital city of Rome. It could be defined as a backlinks race, from North to South and a little bit to the North again, a very hard race for sprinters taking part on it, even without the usual hard obstacle represented by Alps at the end of the path.

The Tuscan leg of the tour will see the crossover of the provinces of Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa and Florence. The Lido di Camaiore – Florence leg is characterized by a pretty linear way of 176Km – with just one exception represented by the Montemagno climb, just a little bit more difficult for participants – ending the race in viale Abram Lincoln in Florence, near to the historic cycle track of the Cascine area. Except for potential intrusion of Farrar, Davis and Goos, the protagonists of such leg will be with no doubt the English cyclist Cavendish and the Italian Petacchi.

Departure of the Tuscan leg will be at 1,25 p.m. and the expected arrival at about 5,00 – 5,30 p.m.

Monet and Japan on view at Royal Palace of Milan

In Milan, a really special exhibition will be set and will show everyone the perfect fusion between Japan and Monet’s skillful art.

The exhibition, entitled “Monet e il Giappone, il Tempo delle Ninfee” (“Monet and Japan, the Time of Water Lilies”) will enchant the Royal Palace rooms of Milan from April 29th to September 27th.

In fact Monet, one of the most esteemed French painters in the history of art, has always showed a particular tendency for Japan, its history, its spirituality and its artistic expressions.

Monet was particularly attracted by the Japanese naturalism, which was born from a philosophical conception of nature that subsequently appeared also in the arts and most of all in painting; he dedicated most of his artistic life to this kind of painting. The Japanese naturalism conceived the nature as a real condition of men.

The nature, introduced in a time which doesn’t go by and doesn’t move is for the man, who has to pay respect to it and to enjoy its precious benefits and treasures.

Therefore, this extraordinary exhibition at Royal Palace of Milan consists of a twenty works, which were born from the connection between French impressionism and Japanese naturalism.

The event is absolutely not to miss and remember, it will take place from April 29th to September 27th in Milan.

Saint Ambrose Day has really ancient origins and through the years it has been keeping the affection and the participation of all Milan’s inhabitants, who between the ritual mass of 7th December in the beautiful Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio and the stalls of “Oh bej oh bej” fair, cram the streets of the city to celebrate this great event.

The fair, which dates back to 1288, takes its name from the exclamation of Milan’s children who, between the stalls full of toys and sweets, couldn’t help marveling and shouted “Oh bej oh bej” (that it means “Oh, how nice! How nice!”).
