St Lucy Day Celebrations throughout Italy

Considered the procuress of eyes, the blind, oculists and electricians, the liturgical festival of St Lucy is celebrated on 13th December, some days before summer solstice.

St Lucy’s body, which is currently kept in the Church of San Geremia in Venice, in the past was stolen by the Byzantines in Siracusa and later was purloined by Venetians who conquered Constantinople.

St Lucy celebrations, patron saint of Siracusa, a town located in Sicily, nowadays is a recurring event that crowds many Italian squares with stalls nd stands selling sweets and typical local dishes.

Christmas events: Saint Ambrose Festival and Oh Bej, Oh Bej Fair In Milan

On Saint Ambrose festival, religious and popular event, Milan citizens go to the St. Ambrose Basilica to attend the mass for the Holy Patron Saint.

On such an occasion, every year theOh Bej, Oh Bej” fair is held in Milan streets - from 6th to 8th December – in the area near Sforza Castle.

The name of the fair was born in 1510 from the cries of children for the gifts that Pope Pius IV sent them.

The gifts, full of sweets and games, served to rekindle the enthusiasm of the religious faithful in Milan.

At the fair, visitors will find hundreds stalls where scavengers, artists, craftsmen and florists change the city with their beautiful toys, books, prints, sweets, tastes and sensations.

45th Festival of the Sea in Levanto

On July, 24th and 25th, you’re all invited to the great 45th Festival of the Sea in the lovely seaside resort Levanto, located in the province of La Spezia (Liguria Region).

The Festival of the Sea has being celebrated since 1968, in honour of the patron saint of sailors, St James the Apostle, in order to commemorate the period in which the town was found.

In the days preceding the festival, many religious liturgies are held, whereas on 24th and 25th July visitors can see historical parades, medieval games, a procession with crucifixes and the whole gulf enlightened with 10 thousand colored candles and also fabulous fireworks.

The fabulous Battle of Flowers of Ventimiglia | June, 15th and 16th

On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June, 50th edition of the traditional Battle of Flowers will be held in Ventimiglia (Liguria Region).

In the early 20th century, the Festival of Flowers used to take place to pay homage to Spring and the awakening of nature with papier-mâché floats and floral decorations

This year, the awesome Battle of Flowers will celebrate its 50th anniversary and all celebrations will begin on Saturday 15th June, when there will be the parade of “No Ducati…No Party” Moto Club at 9 pm and then the night parade of the floats covered with flowers, folkloristic bands

Siena pays homage to its Traditional Events: Scorribanda

On September, Saturday 15th, 12 music bands coming from Siena’s and Arezzo’s area will parade and perform in the city streets of Siena.

They will all gather in the beautiful and world-famous Piazza del Campo at 4.30 pm for starting this yearly music performance.
