The masterpieces of Tuscan Macchiaioli on display in Viareggio

We’re talking about the paintings at the art exhibition entitled “I Macchiaioli per l’Orangerie. Opere in Anteprima” (“The Macchiaioli for the Orangerie. Works on Preview”) held at Centro Matteucci per l’Arte Moderna in Viareggio.

Carnival of Viareggio celebrates its 140th anniversary!

Here we go again! The funniest and most amusing carnival in Italy is coming back: the one of the famous personage of Burlamacco, the masked parades on Sundays, the multicoloured and huge papier-mâché floats: the world-famous Carnival of Viareggio, which this year celebrates its 140th anniversary!

This year, the so much beloved masked parades will take place on 3rd, 10th, 12th, 17th February and 3rd March, in a myriad of confetti and streamers and in company of much music, songs and dances, for the joy of adults and children.

Septemberfest 2012, a toast between Ingolstadt and Carrara

From 25th August to 8th September, Septemberfest will come back in the town of Marina di Carrara!

The Septemberfest, founded in 1976, as an evidence of the twinning between Ingolstadt and Carrara, has become one of the largest and most important beer festivals, in a real German style, which every year takes place out of German borders and gathers more than 120 thousands visitors.

Its success is due to the originality of its products: bavarian typical beer, German folk music, entertainment and typical cuisine.

The famous “tree of May”, typical of Bavaria, dominates the square of Carrara.

Versiliana Festival is the most important event of Versilia’s cultural summer. It takes place at the open-air theatre of Parco della Versiliana in the city of Pietrasanta (Versilia coast, Tuscany).

Tuscany can boast of several records, especially one: this region was the first in the world to abolish the capital punishment. In fact on November 30th 1796, the enlightened Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo banished confiscation, torture and death penalty through a single law.

Since 2001, Tuscany has been celebrating this historical occurrence with an official feast, which even schedules a holiday for the schools of the ancient Grand Duchy and a program rich of events spread on all the regional area.

This initiative aims not only to remind and celebrate a defining moment of modern history, but in particular to reflect on the present and the future of the whole mankind. It’s important to notice, in fact, that the capital punishment is still applied in many countries in the world, and that Italian State is fighting for its abolition with an international moratorium at UN.

Hence this topic is a living matter, together with other related issues as democracy, peace, equality and justice all over the world.

Tuscany Feast so deals with values which are not only strictly related to death penalty, but also to other current problems, such as dialogue among different cultures and inclusion, sexual equality and deaths on-the-job.
